the $50 was lost they would come to me for more. If winnings over a certain amount were made then they would send it

back to me.

In the actual gambling house the banker

would never have more than 50 dollars or so in hand. From the commencement of the 11th.moon of last year to 5th. noon this year we lost over $7,000. The bribes paid out

per diem

& other expenses amounted to about $200. We had to make $200

a day before we could make again. I am not the real master. I

am the accountant. I do not consider it odd that I should be

able to pay $200 a day in expenses. Sometimes we won & some-

times lost. We were always having new partners. I have been

the accountant all the time. I did not advise the masters to

open the house for the benefit of the Police. If I did not

pay the Police I could not open the house. I am a clansman

of Sam Cha. Before Sam Cha became sick he had a share in the

house. After he became sick he had no share. He has been sick

6 years. Six years ago I was not here. I heard that Sam Cha

had a gambling house. Sam Cha was partly paralysed. For 6

years he could not get about much. He can walk now with a

crutch. It is impossible that Sam Cha & Lam Chi could use the

name of the Police to obtain money from the gambling house

& put it in their pocket. They could not do it for more than

3 or 4 days. If all the Chinese Police were bribed the Eu-

ropean Police could still hear that gambling was going on.
